One point to note on this TOTP2 show - in the Tomorrow's Hits section, it predicted chart entry for Donna Summer with State Of Independence, which did come in as a new entry at No.13, but did not get played on the first April TOTP the following week, and lost out to a lower chart entry at No.19 as choice of chart rundown video. Good Lord!

DeleteMark Snow - did anyone watch the X Files at the time, as I didn't? Anyway, was interested know who Mark Snow is, and turns out his real name is Martin Fulterman who was 49 at the time of this release in 1996, but had originally produced the theme tune for Starskey & Hutch, The Love Boat, Cagney & Lacey, Hart To Hart, and TJ Hooker in the 70s and 80s, but now with The X Files in 1996, it was the first I ever heard of him.

No.40 Cliff Richard ft Helen Hobson - The Wedding
Lowest peak position for Cliff for 10 years since his 1986 single Slow Rivers peaked at No.44, so not a good return to poor chart results for Cliff.
No.42 Roxette - You Don't Understand Me
Another emotional song from a fading Roxette who by 1996 were winding down their chart hits at this stage, in a seemingly fall from grace since their 1989-1994 era where most of their singles were Top 20.

Mark Snow: My Dad loved this show. I was a casual viewer but I'd probably appreciate it more now. Great theme tune although this version is a remix and not Track One.
Gina G: Possibly our best ever Eurovision song. Should have won. End of.
Cast: Another good tune.
PJ and Duncan: Love this version of Stepping Stone although the performance is hilarious.
Dubstar: So underrated. Tune of the show. Superb album as well.
WWW: Even enjoyed this one tonight, must be in a good mood.
Prodigy: Not normally my kind of tune and my eldest loved this band so much I got sick of them. But this is a quality tune and a well deserved Number One. Nothing else like it in the charts.
Bis did so well to get so much attention. They were everywhere in the music press. At the time I only really liked Eurodisco and found them a bit annoying but Kandy Pop is a much better track than I gave it credit for and I quite enjoy it now.
ReplyDeleteStars is one of my favourite songs of all time, Firestarter is a great number one. Gina G is good but going to appear a lot in coming weeks. Cast are OK. The X Files is a great theme tune but not 100 percent on it as a single/remix. Everything else ia dreck.
