I can feel something inside me say it's the 30th of October 1998 edition of Top of the Pops!
The Cher must go on
30-10-98: Presenter: Jamie Theakston
(4) CULTURE CLUB – I Just Wanna Be Loved
Making their comeback after twelve years away, this was the band's ninth and final top ten hit but it got no higher.
(11) THE BEAUTIFUL SOUTH – Perfect 10
Had already peaked at number 2.
(17) LYNDEN DAVID HALL – Sexy Cinderella
With his second of three top 40 hits but it got no higher.
(15) THE CARDIGANS – My Favourite Game
Had already peaked at number 14.
(3) U2 – Sweetest Thing (video)
At its peak.
(8) KELE LE ROC – Little Bit Of Lovin’
Performing her first of two top ten hits but it got no higher.
(5) ALANIS MORISSETTE – Thank U (video)
Her second of two top ten hits and it was at its naked peak.
(1) CHER – Believe (and credits)
In the studio for her first of seven weeks at number one.

Culture Club - first single in 12 years since departing the pop scene in 1986, but this didn't feel like the Culture Club sound, but more like Boy George solo, so not sure why the rest of the original group reformed for a such a sound. A further two singles came in 1999 with little effect on the charts.
ReplyDeleteThe Beautiful South - even though this had gone down to No.11 for another appearance in the TOTP studio, I must say it was worth it, cos this is a really catchy number, and so original in its style, as we will also see on the next show with a new entry by Touch & Go.
Alanis Morrisette - surprised that TOTP played this video, considering the half-naked Morrisette with only her long hair covering her bosom in the early part of the video.
I also noticed recently that TOTP were insisting on a specially filmed introduction by the artists for their own video on the show, which was not a pre-requisite before the 90s, so this seemed to be some consolation for TOTP for when the group was not available to come to the TOTP studio which was the show's main priority in the 90s over playing the videos.
Loved The Cardigans, great song and Cher's Belive, I've still got the CD Singe. Has anyone got Top Of The Pops 20/10/1977 Please.
