  1. Nothing of interest on this week's selection of singles to on the TOTP roster, but only on the Top 40 chart rundown where four new entries were not played, and now at peak, so we will not get to see them on the show:

No.19 The Real McCoy - Come And Get Your Love
Not as successful as their UK debut single a couple years earlier in 1993 called Another Night which got to No.2, but this 1995 effort I thought was just as good, as it is the ideal set words to hear from your partner, and was also incidentally the final Top 40 single from Real McCoy.

No.25 Ali Campbell - Let Your Yeah Be Yeah
Second of three solo singles for the ex-UB40 frontman in 1995, all making Top 30, but decline in peak positions of singles since the debut single made No.5 with two appearances of the video on TOTP.

No.39 Cyndi Lauper - Come On Home
Penultimate Top 40 single from Lauper in a long chart career stretching back to 1984 with Girls Just Wanna Have Fun, which she is most remembered for. Only one more single was to come in early 1997 which hardly troubled the Top 40.

No.40 Matt Goss - after brother Luke's meagre solo career with two singles in 1993 not even getting anywhere near the Top 40, Matt started his own solo career here now in 1995 wth this debut single peaking at No.40, which was the first of four solo singles up until 2004, all of which comfortably were Top 40 achievements.

  2. I enjoyed this edition! Björk was the big highlight but Blur, Charlatans and Oasis all good, the dance tunes were fine. Diana Ross was a bit random (and why no Alanis?) but solid enough,
and with Blur, Oasis, Charlatans and Jarvis, a good episode for Britpop!

  3. Three singles at peak position outside the Top 40 this week, and worth a mention, as they are from previous chart regulars from years gone by, but with no Top 40 presence now:

No.44 Alison Moyet - Solid Wood
Final single release, bringing down the curtain on a career going back to 1984 with what was I thought her best ever single Love Resurrection which peaked at No.10.

    No.51 Sinaed O'Conner - Famine
Not one of her best know singles, but a good effort.

No.63 Fish featuring Sam Brown - Just Good Friends
Three years since Fish's last Top 40 single, this was also the final single, bringing down the curtain on a career spanning 13 years if including Marrilion which had their first single release in 1982.

    1. The chart career might have been over, but Fish went onto release another 7 studio albums between 1997 and 2020, with regular tours across the UK and Europe to support these releases. 2024 is expected to be his final year of touring

  4. It's 2UNLIMITED, oops sorry It's CLOCK! with a dance banger called "Everybody" Solid dance tune. "Loads of good stuff coming later" you funny man Jarvis.

One of THE CHARLATANS best is "Just When You’re Thinking Things Over". Always had a soft spot for them and this is great.

Ooh a live vocal on a Dance track. Not sure how she remembered all the words. Unusual to put the year of remix after the the artist but XPANSIONS ’95 it is. Still sound very 1991 and I would have "Move(d My) Body" to this in Utopia!

OASIS on repeat so "Roll With It". Were they not invited this week or did they refuse? Can't see them backing out of a fight.

A sparkling BJÖRK with the rather fine "Isobel". Really good performance as well.

Then to the US for a smiley, mimey, dancey DIANA ROSS. Don't remember "Take Me Higher" but I liked it very much. Could have shown the video though as she was miming so not sure what the point was. Caption writer can't spell Berri(e).

Continuing on a disco dance theme it's MICHELLE GAYLE miming as well. "Happy Just To Be With You" lots of good vibes and very enjoyable. Michelle looks stunning. Not sure who the prat in the hat is.

In the end it wasn't even close, and the winner was the Singles chart! Great sales week all round. BLUR put in a quality performance a great Number One tune.

RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS with some "Warped" noise to play out. Great show. Jarvis a quality presenter.

  5. Jarvis was a good presenter…

Clock - alright… big standard “dance track with voiceover”

Charlatans - slightly weak performance of one of their best tracks

Madonna - weird video. Very clever editing out of the naughty lyrics…

Xpansion95 - sucked the life out of the original I’m afraid. (Made 2 unlimited verbose)

Oasis - still think that this is better than country house. What wags swapping roles…

Bjork - never liked her songs, and this didn’t change my mind.

Michelle Gayle - chic rip off (TOH has just co-incidentally burst into Good Times to prove my point) (and another one bites the dust to end)

Diana Ross - don’t remember this. Mind you, its not very memorable. Diabolical miming.

Country House - won the battle, but not the war…

So overall, a few clunky tracks, but one of the better episodes in total.
