In the studio with what became his only solo top ten hit when it peaked at number 4.

(28) PAULA ABDUL – My Love Is For Real
Here tonight with her seventh and final top 40 hit but despite this spectacular performance it got no higher.

  1. Ugh, this was a dreary episode. Edwyn Collins was a clear highlight. Then we have Paula Abdul with some uncomfortable cultural appropriation, East 17's weakest single, cleaned up Outhere Brothers, another U2 appearance, a poor Bitty McLean track and some utter dross. Plus that Scream video too late.

    1. You didn't mention presenter Michelle Gayle who I thought trumped all the performers on the show. Good Lord, the last few shows the presenters have left me in awe, I mean Lisa L'Anson, Whitfield, and now Michelle Gayle, all with amazing........well, you know!

Paula Abdul was the pick of the stage performers, and I don't remember her still being around in 1995 in pop music terms, but a quick look on wiki, and this was her last single in the UK, so just as well we got to see her this week in that well choreographed routine.

  2. Chart rundown - two singles at peak position in the Top 40 with no TOTP play:

No.19 Joy Division - Love Will Tear Us Apart
Re-entry for this 1980 single, and not sure what it was back again in 1995.

No.36 Human League - oh so close to another TOTP studio invitation, but they fell out of the Top 40 the following week, and missed out big time with this the third of four singles released in their comeback year.

Also at peak position just outside the Top 40 was a surprising combination of Dusty Springfield and Daryll Hall with Wherever Would I Be.

  3. Did anyone notice Paul Cook from the Sex Pistols playing drums for Edwyn Collins? According to Wikipedia, he was a session drummer for Collins in 1995 before the Sex Pistols reunion in 1996

    1. I said as a joke “that drummer looks like Paul Cook” - I’m such a silly thing 😊

  4. Welcome to Star Trek. Oh no it's TOTP.

Quite like this WWW tune. Marti full smug mode as usual.

Falling from the mother ship it's THE OUTHERE BROTHERS. Fair play for always giving a live energetic performance. "Boom Boom Boom" annoying as hell but I always enjoy watching them.

Not convinced by this BITTY McLEAN cover and it's so long to the friend of UB40. Quite a band tonight.

The classics keep coming in 95 with EDWYN COLLINS and the rather 60s sounding and funky "A Girl Like You" Absolutely love this tune. Highlight of both shows I watched tonight.

PAULA ABDUL with the hugely underwhelming "My Love Is For Real". Didn't enjoy that.

EAST 17 I normally enjoy but "Hold My Body Tight" was a nit naff. Tony's contribution was awful.

6 million dollars on this video? The Jackson have been robbed blind. Tune getting worse each time I hear it. Mrs Morgie thinks it's a racket!
