BBC4 still not showing the correct Grease clips!
DeleteIt's a pity that they are not, and whoever is in charge of putting on the shows may just be picking the latest edits rather than the original shows, as the edits with the wrong Grease clips are also edited into a 30-minute show which seems to be the desired and most preferred airtime these days, and of course makes capturing the original content of the 40-minute shows almost impossible.
DeleteWould have loved to see the Legs & Co routine to Donna Summer's MacArthur Park which was of course edited out to squeeze the show into 30 minutes.
They will never show grease clips, due to royalty costs.
DeleteThe only other time we may see the Grease videos will be part of a official PWL 'Grease-Megamix' video in a upcoming TOTP repeat this December, the film only got shown once on the BBC on Boxing Day 2020 after a 24-year absence and then all else fails - it was shown on BBC Four in May 2021 despite it was delayed due to the passing of Prince Phillip and World Snooker which affected the schedules.
DeleteThe only performance of note on this show was Snap's The First The Last Eternity, with Summer taking the group forward since Turbo B's departure at the end of 1992, and this will be the last time we see Snap on the current chart catalogue going back to 1990, as this was their final Top 40 single, before an unusual return in 2002-2003 with a couple of 90s releases which did well to make the Top 20.
ReplyDeleteTwo singles at peak position inside the Top 40 this week, and worth a mention, as they got no TOTP exposure this time round:
No.22 Luther Vandross - Ain't No Stopping Us Now
Not sure if this a cover of the old McFadden & Whitehead single from 1980, but Vandross was still going strong since the 80s with more new music in 1995.
No.30 Crash Test Dummies - The Ballad Of Peter Pumpkinhead
Third and final single for this American group, but at least all three got a Top 30 placing, with the first one, the famous Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm doing best to get to No.2 a year earlier in April 1994.
I actually really like the CTD cover of Peter Pumpkinhead. The film it's from less so.
DeleteI enjoyed this episode more than the last one though neither are up there with some of 95's best.
ReplyDeleteLove City Groove was a bit naff but the chorus is catchy.
Tina Arena is an obvious hit, very classic power ballad.
I really like this era of REM, or maybe it's because my friend played this album all the time and I'm nostalgic for it.
Snap are good, Hole are great.
Bruce is a good name but a dreary track.
Strike one of the year's most enduring dance tracks.
Shane and Sinead - has a charm to it
When Phill does the link to introduce Take That at Number one, he's in front of the stage where Shane and Sinead had just performed - and it very much looks like Sinead is voicing some discontent about TT from behind his shoulder! Good on her!
ReplyDeleteMr Jupitus cracking the funnies and introducing the turns tonight. Not a bad job all in all.
ReplyDeleteI can just about stand the recorded version of LOVE CITY GROOVE but this live version is awful. What were we thinking? Female rapper (if we can call her that) has come in her PJs. Classy.
Tune of the night. month and possibly year from Aussie TINA ARENA. "Chains" is a stunning record and one of my 90s faves.
Forgettable REM followed by SUMMER still looking for the second "t" in Eternity, She's come in nightwear as well. Was there a sale on at C&A?
One HOLE was enough so I skipped "Doll Parts" and got as far as half way through the first verse of "Haunted" before I skipped it (yes when Shane opened his gob). BRUCE was also very boring and it's been quite a mixed show tonight.
Finally some life from STRIKE with a much better vocal performance of "U Sure Do". Quite a dance heavy Top Ten as well leading to a second pre-recorded performance from The That (Boo Sinead!).
Happy Easter All
