    3. Wonder if they are ever going to show the 25th March?

    4. I doubt it, as it has The Glitter Band as one of the performers, even though Gary was no longer in the group by that point, and the presenter saying he has two Glitter Girls with him when introducing one of the performers. The other possible reason is the drumkit image on the first group on the show, The Marmalade.

Next weekend BBC4 are already into May 1976, so the 25th March edition is long gone by now.

    5. 08-04-76 episode - one of the best ever Pans People performances was on Paperback Writer, excellent choreography.

Eric Carmen didn't hang around after being interviewed by Noel Edmonds, did he? when glancing over to the next act which was Frank Valli, Carmen turned towards Edmonds with a thank you handshake and cleared off instead of waiting till the camera moved away from them. Good Lord! Anyway, looks like Carmen did a recording of his new single on this episode for the next episode the following week with DLT, as on the DLT show we see Carmen performing his song in the same clothes as the Noel Edmonds episode where he was on only for an interview.

Back to Franki Valli's studio performance on this show - he appeared in the TOTP studio a number of times in 1976, but in 1978 when he was in the charts with the Grease soundtrack, he was nowhere to be seen, as we got the high school prom video instead, and on another occasion a Legs & Co routine. Good Lord!

    6. 22-04-76 episode - by now I just loved how Pans People were getting two songs to dance to on each TOTP show, especially as their were only four girls left in the group by 1976, so why not have more than one song to dance to?

By the time Legs & Co came along as five or six girls, they only got one song per show, even though the shows were still 35 or 40 minutes long for a further five years until 1981 when they finally bowed out.

    7. @Dory Marmalade was the reason why 25-03-76 didn’t get shown, the band’s drum kit has a golliwog on it.

    8. It was good to get 10cc on the 8th April repeat which I don't think was shown the last time the edition was repeated. I'd forgotten what a great acoustic strum part it had as well as a lovely tune. They were one clever band. Good video too which showed off their skills.

    9. I've noticed that BBC4 are playing the full 1976 shows at 40 minutes long, and not editing them. Thumbs up BBC4, and thanks to whichever Anonymous posted up the 25-03-76 episode on here recently.

  2. Whitney Houston - Good Lord, don't remember her ever being in the TOTP studio, let alone performing in it - well at least not in the 90s, as it was always her videos in the early 90s since her big No.1 in 1992. Anyone know?

Top 20 chart rundown - Good Lord, Steppenwolf back in the charts in 1999 with the legendary Born To Be Wild. This re-issue in 1999 peaking at No.18, did much better than the original in 1969 which only made No.30. I would imagine this may have beed reissued at the 30th anniversary of the single, as I can't think of any other reason why.

  3. Whitney definitely performed I Wanna Dance With Somebody in the studio in the 80's, singing it live too.

    2. I thought as much, as it was when she was No.1 forever in 1992 with I Will Always...we only got the video week after week, and since then only videos for her singles on the show, so this new 1999 appearance in the TOTP studio was likely to be the first in 12 years since 1987 with I Wanna Dance With Somebody.

    3. I still like 'I Wanna Dance With Somebody' but here's an anecdote; I went on a school excursion to Thorpe Park in Summer term 1987 when it was in the charts. One of those keep 'em occupied things that they did in the late '80s at school if you opted not to go on the school field trip. My vivid memory of it was that it seemed to be playing on the coach about 8 times going there and about 8 times going back! Maybe more. I still can't hear it without thinking about swirling around on a ride and being soaked!

    4. It was certainly on overplayed track in those days and in the years beyond. Nowadays I can't bear it when it comes on at any greatest hits radio channels.

By the way, I remember vividly my school field trip which took us to St Marys Bay in Kent I think in early 1985 during the winter, as I remember it was very cold and still getting dark early before the clocks went forward for British summertime, but it was a lot of fun.
