(4) HANSON – Where’s The Love
Getting the show underway but the song got no higher.

(7) CAST – Live The Dream
Here with their sixth of seven top ten hits but it got no higher.

(9) TINA MOORE – Never Gonna Let You Go
With her only top ten hit and it peaked at number 7.

(10) FINLEY QUAYE – Even After All
Performing his only top ten hit which was now at its peak.

(16) KAVANA – Crazy Chance ‘97
Had previously made number 35 last year, this time it peaked at number 16.

(12) N-TYCE – We Come To Party
Here with their second of four top 40 hits, this was the biggest but it got no higher.

(8) MARIAH CAREY – Honey
Had already peaked at number 3.

(1) THE VERVE – The Drugs Don’t Work  (video)  (and credits)
Their first and only week at number one, and the second single from their massive number one album, Urban Hymns.

  1. Interesting that Mariah Carey gets played again this week, after falling from No.3 to No.8, but TOTP was by now not in its traditional mould of only playing climbers on the show, and certainly not on consecutive weeks unless at No.1. Both these traditions had gone out of the window by 1997.

    Two new entries this week outside the Top 20, so therefore out of TOTP's chart rundown, were Led Zeppelin with Whole Lotta Love which is the original TOTP theme music, and also early 80s favourites Echo & The Bunnymen with a new single for 1997 called I Want To Be There When You Come. Probably best to have titled this as ...When You Arrive!

  2. Surprised that The Verve only had one week at number one.

    But then again, not when I had a look at next weeks number one.
    Reminds me, I was on holiday when the news broke about Diana
