Third of four weeks at number one.
Jon Bon Jovi - not Bon Jovi, we found that 1997 was the first time since his first solo foray in 1990 with Blaze Of Glory and Miracle which for me was his best solo output, and now on this second solo single in a 1997 second solo stint, this one did not do as well as his previous single a couple of months earlier called Midnight in Chelsea which got to No.4. Although 1997 scored better chart positions for JBJ, I still preferred the two 1990 solo singles.
ReplyDeleteUB40 - ten years since Rat In Mi Kitchen was their last TOTP studio appearance until returning to the studio in 1995, the line up now in 1997 looked the same as in 1987, with the only difference being that they aged by 10 years, put on a lot more weight, and now having to return to performing in the studio after little success since Rat In Mi Kitchen, partly due to the fact that they stopped appearing the in the TOTP studio in favour of sending videos for TOTP to show, so now they were having to resurrect their appeal to the next generation of pop fans in the late 90s and needed more studio appearances.
David Bowie was in a similar position with recent appearances in the TOTP studio in the late 90s, but this week a new entry and peak position of No.61 with Seven Years In Tibet, could not even get his next TOTP studio performance, as by now you would have to get comfortably into the Top 20 to have a good chance of being invited to perform on the show.
