Getting the new year underway with their first of four top 40 hits, this one being the biggest but it got no higher.

(8) KAVANA – I Can Make You Feel Good
Here with his first of two top ten hits, but it got no higher.

(2) TORI AMOS – Professional Widow (It’s Got To Be Big)  (video)  (and charts)
Will go up one more place.

(30) RUNRIG – The Greatest Flame
Performing their eighth and final top 40 hit but it got no higher.

(3) ORBITAL – Satan Live  (video)
Their first of two top ten hits and this one was at its peak.

(12) TERRORVISION – Easy
In the studio but got not higher.

(NEW) BLUR – Beetlebum
Performing what will soon become their second number one.

(1) SPICE GIRLS – 2 Become 1  (video)
Third and final week at number one.

(TOTP2) DAVID BOWIE – Starman  (clip of TOTP 6-7-72)  (and credits)
Number 10 in 1972.

  3. Good to see that Radio 1 DJ's are are still in demand for presenting TOTP by 1997.

    Favourite group on the show this week was Kenickie which I presume came from one of the characters in Grease, just as McFly took heir name from one of the characters in Back To The Future.

    Chart rundown - did anyone spot The Fine Young Cannibals as a new entry and at peak at No.36 with their original 1989 single She Drives Me Crazy? I'm presuming this was due to a TV advert in 1997 using their tune.

    2. I must say that Laverne was looking very nice on her TOTP performance as Kenickie, and definitely worth a watch. I'd never even heard of this group before until this BBC4 repeat, although I had heard of Laverne as a radio presenter capacity on Desert Island Discs.
