Bing Crosby film clearance issues, meant it was cut.
DeleteSame with Dooley Wilson and Elvis Presley in the 2012 repeats due to clearance issues, come 2013, Legs & Co came to save the day with three number one songs in place of film clips - from Grease and Saturday Night Fever.
DeleteI just loved the costumes on Legs & Co on this 1977 edition of TOTP. Yowsah Yowsah Yowsah!
DeleteUnusual to have a whole 1977 TOTP show edited down to 25 minutes this week. I mean half and hour was bad enough, but thanks to too many clearance issues, we were really getting short-changed on this show!
The Spice Girls presenting this Christmas 1996 TOTP show were very good, and had great chemistry with each other. Very nice girls and on this showing warmed me more to them than when they are at No.1 with Wannabe which was the end of my following the charts, a bit like the last straw.
ReplyDeleteVictoria Spice seemed the shy one of the group, but good for her that she landed David Beckham not long after, and was really a case of 2 Become 1, so you could say that this week's No.1 was for her, not that any of us knew it at the time of this show!
Pleased that this show had the Gabrielle-East 17 single If You Ever, which was one of the standout singles of 1996, and let's not forget that the Macarena spent 14 weeks at No.1 in America in the late summer and early autumn of 1996, even though it only peaked at No.2 in the UK.

Thanks Rob, could you reup 21.12.1196, the link went down in less than three days for some reason
DeleteTOTP2 - 28 December 1996
Delete- E for East 17 & Gabrielle with If You Ever. What a beautiful Christmas sound. Apparently it's a cover of a 1992 song called If I Ever Fall In Love by Shai, and renamed If You Ever.
- H for Jeremy Healy with Amos, with Stamp.
H also stands for Haysi Fantayzee which Healy was one half of with Kete Garner in 1982-83. Loved all of those singles.
TOTP2 - 4 January 1997
- W for Paul Weller with Changing Man.
I love the instrumental break on this single which sounds so much like the intro of 10538 Overture by ELO, released 24 years earlier in 1972.
-XYZ - The Pet Shop Boys with David Bowie, with Hallo Spaceboy. XYZ being a combination in this case, as there were no individual groups in 1996 starting with these letters.
Thanks as always Rob, but the links expired before I could download them. Could you, or anyone else, reupload these 2 episodes please?
DeleteThank you very much.

Hi Darrelljp.
DeleteI'm getting an error because the folder has been marked as private instead of public.
To fix this you have to click the 3 dots next to the folder location > properties > public > configure and set it to public.
I tried to explain it visually here https://imgur.com/a/esR3HdV.
Hope it works.
You could also use another file hoster of course.
Thank you (I hope you also have the 4th January one)
try now?
DeleteGreat, it works, thanks a lot.
DeleteNow crossing fingers for the 4th January episode.
Does anyone know when the first of the TOTP 1997 shows will be shown on BBC4, as we only got the TOTP Christmas 1995 show last night on the 7-8pm slot?
