  1. Chart rundown video - Celine Dion at No.3 with a video reminiscent of I'd Do Anything For Love, with all the candelabras and silk duvets, as it had all the hallmarks of a Jim Steinman and Meat Loaf collaboration, and only three years after I'd Do Anything For Love held the No.1 spot for 7 weeks in the lead-up to Christmas 1993.

Some interesting new entries on the chart rundown this week, had Felix back again in the charts at No.17 with a second remix of Don't You Want Me, having first charted with this back in 1992, and then again in 1995 with the first remix, with all three versions making it to the Top 20.

Other new entries on the chart were Soul II Soul at No.31 with a remix of the 1989 no.1 single Keep On Moving', and Suzanne Hoffs at No.32 with All I Want, having already gone solo from The Bangles in 1991, with first single since then, which also turned out to be her last.

    1. Felix's 'Don't You Want Me '96', the Puglish Mix was featured in a Tango commercial which propelled to re-enter the chart for the final time in 1996 and despite being featured on Hits '97 in December 1996.

    1. This was a stonkingly good TOTP2 show, starting with The First Time section featuring The Cult's first appearance on TOTP with She Sell Sanctuary.

Was surprised that the Rock 'n' Roll Circus concert from December 1968 only got its UK premiere in London in October 1996. It seems like it was a 1996 production, it was that ahead of its time. The Sympathy For The Devil piece we got to see was around 12 minutes long!

The Recorded For Recall section featured July 1978, and my pick was the two Birmingham groups - City Boy with 5-7-0-5, and then ELO with Wild West Hero. Nice to get around 4 minutes of the 5-minute ELO video, as on the original TOTP show in 1978, they showed 4:45 of the video, so essentially a longer-than-3-minute video in full which was rare in those days on TOTP.

The Archive Playout celebrated Chuck Berry's 70th birthday in October 1996, and he went on to have another 20 birthdays, as he died in 2017 at the age of 90. Johnny B Goode stands out as one of the quintessential rock n roll tunes of all time.

  3. Despite the only other late-night showing had the 18/10/96 edition unedited which was in the late Saturday night slot which aired on BBC One the following night, it has been repeated once before. Technically copyright issues with Grease as the BBC couldn't afford to pay the rights for a movie clip neither this time like they did in 2013 when they inserted the Legs & Co routines in place of them when they were at number one for the 1978 repeats.

Channel 4 are still showing Grease now since 2021, but only the BBC showed it on Boxing Day 2020 (their first in almost 24 years since New Year's Day 1997) and The Grease Megamix official video had 'Summer Nights' in between 'You're the One That I Want' and 'Greased Lightning' (which was part of a December 1990 episode) when it was prior to be shown in April 2021, to how lucky we are.
