Chart rundown - a couple of new entries this week in the Top 40 rundown at peak and with the only week in the chart, and no TOTP feature:
ReplyDeleteNo.28 Mory Kante - Yeke Yeke '96 Remixes
The original in 1988 did poorly in the UK, only managing No.29, while it was at No.1 in several countries throughout the world, so it was pity that this return in 1996 with the remixes could not do much better in the charts. Kante sadly passed away in 2020.
No.40 The Red Hill Children - When Children Rule The World
This tune from the Whistle Down The Wind new musical about to be released in the US in December 1996, was produced for Children In Need and worth a listen, as it was also included in the UK West End musical of Whistle Down The Wind released a couple of years later in 1998 as joint work between Andrew Lloyd Webber and Jim Steinman, with Donny Osmond doing this single, and Meat Loaf, Bonnie Tyler, Boyzone and Michael Ball also contributing to the soundtrack of the West End musical.

DeleteA very good TOTP2 this week, with Sting in the Video Stir section, who seems to have come from outer space with an electrically charged horse, and refused to leave planet earth with his alien fleet at the end. It's a pity that all this effort on the video could only result in a No.54 peak in the charts.
DeleteIn the Recorded For Recall section with October 1974, I liked the David Bowie version of Knock On Wood with a video location of south London and a market looking very much like the one in the intro for Only Fools And Horses. Never seen this video before, and worth a watch in full to see what happens to the long-haired finely-chested brunette hottie in the video, as the TOTP clip was too short and finished up too early before the end of the video.
In the Video Classic section, I liked The Cure's 1985 video for Close To me, and I was always a bit puzzled as to why a wardrobe full of clothes was at the top of a cliff with two people trapped inside it.
.
Wow, a real bumper crop of TOTP this Christmas. A repeat of the Christmas day '75 show then 1st week of January, 2 from March '75. Nice surprise although it also reminds me that my 50th is coming up in August. Anyway quite a thing to look on the totp upcoming list and see 60 appear! I've added an extra '1,2' for that. More truthful to say I got my blog name wrong.
