ReplyDeleteDiana Ross - back in the TOTP studio for a rare appearance. Certainly I don't recall many appearances by her on in the studio, but at 52 in this clip she looked amazing in her black minidress, and the lovely Diana turned 80 this year. I found a nice clip of her with Larry Hagman from Dallas, doing one of her most famous singles together:

Ahem, that leads me nicely to the Top 10 rundown, where No.1 is called I Feel You, and No.3 is called I Need You. Good Lord, what a heartwarming December 1996 chart we have!

ReplyDeleteHello, good friends. I'm new to your party, I wanted to ask if anyone has an Oxford Road UK TV show? I've been looking for it for a long time without success. I can share with you if you are interested in other shows I have Supersonic, Solid Gold, Saturday night, Don Kirshner's Rock concert, Countdown, Dick Clark shows and others.
ReplyDeleteThanks for uploading this episode to Wetransfer. Quality is great.
ReplyDeleteRegarding No Way Sis, I thought Oasis did some gimmick, but it seemed to be a tribute band of them. Really great job, I was convinced it was the real deal.
Nothing else worth remembering for me from this episode.
Toni Braxton while at No.4 this week, was to embark on a staggering 11 weeks at No.1 in the UK from the beginning of December 1996 until mid-February 1997, and as if this wasn't enough, she was finally knocked off the American No.1 spot by The Spice Girls with Wannabe which only stayed at No.1 for four weeks during February and March 1997.

ReplyDeletePick of this TOTP2 show was the new video by Elton John & Pavarotti in the Tomorrow's Hits section, which sounded so much like Circle Of Life two years earlier by Elton John on his own, that this new duet with Pavarotti was kind of unsurprising. This song as a new entry at No.9 on the following week's TOTP chart rundown video, was a different video made for TOTP, but not the official video which was on this TOTP2 show.
DeleteReally liked the Kraftwerk video in the Recorded For Recall section from January 1982, where I remember this had a solitary week at No.1, but still it got to the top spot.
In the Archive Playout section at the end of the show with Little Richard singing Long Tall Sally, you can see Billy Haley briefly in the video sitting at one of the cabaret tables in between two other men enjoying the performance by Little Richard.
Thanks Rob!!!
