Gina G - this reminded me of Madonna's La Isla Bonita from 1987, with Gina G seeming to have matured her own sound in the same way as Madonna, going from dance to gentle. I mean even the banjo player on stage had a likeness to the banjo player in the La Isla Bonita video, so it was like here-we-go-again a decade later in 1997. Good Lord!
ReplyDeleteOverall this TOTP show seemed to just play again an number of singles from the last show, so TOTP radically changed the approach of the show, previously giving as many performers a chance to appear and promote themselves to a new audience, but now instead just doing many rehashes of previous performances without the customary week in between. Some overhaul of TOTP you could say!
The other day I saw that some top of the pops repeats were being shown on the 'U & Eden' channel, which is channel 176 on my Virgin box. So I've been recording them to see what they were. This evening they have shown this Friday's upcoming shows, hence they have shown them on Eden before the BBC4 repeats. Not sure whether this will be a continuing situation as on my TV it isn't clear which episodes are being shown unless I watch them.
ReplyDeleteI had a look around the internet to see if anybody else had noticed and there is a thread on the matter at Digital Spy if anyone is interested. There are a lot of rumours as to the possibility of banned shows being shown on this channel but guess we will have to wait and see. What does look likely is shows being shown on this channel way in advance of the BBC4 repeats.
I'm not going to comments on the sound or picture quality and yes there are ads stuck in the middle of these but thought you might like to know this was going on.
BBC4 will be skipping several shows across June July and Aug 1997, so next week we will be finding ourselves already in Aug 1997.
