Cathy Dennis presenting this show made it very watchable, as well as Republica's Saffron already on her second single and prompted me to buy the video on iTunes straight after the show. Highly recommended.
ReplyDeleteKenickie - getting their name from their favourite character in Grease, real name Jeff Conway who also starred in the American hit comedy Taxi in the early 80s with Danny Devito.
DJ Quicksilver - getting a third play on TOTP, despite dropping to No.5 this week, and I think TOTP were testing our resolve by now, by taking away from an new upcoming single which could do with the promotion and airplay on the show while climbing the charts, but getting denied instead, and TOTP have seemed to go in a backward step since the beginning of 1997 with this practice of showcasing chart droppers, already done for The Spice Girls and No Doubt in the last few shows.
Rant over.
Republica was my highlight of this episode. Too bad they only had 2 hits and after that ... nothing. They had more potential.
ReplyDeleteI remember hearing their songs for the first time and was just blown away by their electronic/rock/energy style.
