DeleteGood Lord, did anyone notice the first tune over the Top 30 chart, namely The Motors? This tune was later used by BBC TV's famous Grandstand sports programme during the 80's, in instrumental form that is.
Pity that Summer Nights at No.11 was edited out with two other singles, in the week before it got to No.1 and stayed there for several weeks until November.
Brotherhood of Man (also edited out) still going in 1978? in a career going back to 1970, it was effectively their last single, as only one more in a summer 1982 comeback could only manage no.67.
Abba - Summer Night City
At least this one was not edited out. Phew! This has always been my favourite Abba single, alongside Eagle and Name of The Game, and the video was just brilliant on the show, especially soon after a similarly named song Summer Nights from Grease.
Chart rundown - did anyone notice Deuce as a new entry at No.29 and at peak with No Surrender? More like no invite by TOTP to come in to perform it, and this was to be their last single.
ReplyDeleteOn the Top 10 rundown later in the show, Queen was a new entry at No.9 and also at peak with Let Me Live, also with no slot on the show to see the video, and they fell badly the following week to outside the Top 20, but the Top 10 rundown did seem to show that there was a video available for the song.
Have to say that I expected the Sex Pistols to revise their 1976-77 antics of anarchy on stage, but none of it, as they just performed like any other performer on stage, concentrating solely on the music. After all, it was 20 years on since their late 70s shocking outbursts, but here IN 1996 the men in their 40s seemed to have calmed down into middle age very respectably!
Dory I don't even remember that Deuce song and I had their album! (Don't remember the album being much good though)
ReplyDeleteOther than too much Pistols at the end (I like them but like with Weller recently I'm annoyed at the over deference to older acts by doing multiple songs after the number one) this was a decent episode!
There was a horrible remix of Wrong on 6 Music the other day. The original is better.
Divine Comedy I love, this is one of two Celine tracks I like. Shampoo inspiring another girl group's catchphrase and yup, Angelo, someone in team spice must have been watching! Actually a good track, I don't remember why younger me didn't like Shampoo much.
