  1. This show was a bit of a mixed bag, as I thought the presenter was awful, but the performing guests on the show was standout.

Umboza - I don't recall this one at the time, but I love how they use the Bamboleo in the mix, and the two sexy dancers with the white minidresses gave the show a hot start, and got us viewers in the mood for the rest of the show, with more hotties including The Spice Girls and Los Del Rio to come.

Chart rundown - anyone spot Eric Clapton as a new entry at No.18? This was also his peak position, and not included on the show, as there was possibly no video, and no play amongst the other performers on the show, and first Top 40 single on his own since 1992 which was a good year for him chartwise.

Los Del Rio - I don't remember them in the TOTP studio, as the video was the iconic memory of this group. Pity that TOTP missed off the intro and went straight to female vocal, as the intro was the defining moment. Anyway the lead girl on vocals in the red hot pants had a gorgeous a......
Thanks Angelo for this weeks picture frame.

  2. UGH KEITH ALLEN GO AWAY YOU AREN'T FUNNY AND THAT TERRIBLE VOICE IS A BIT RACIST.

I agree, Dory, what a good episode it would have been without him. I hate Gary Barlow and this is one of his worst, and the Rock Therapy track was a bit dull, if worthy. . I'm not keen on Umboza but it's a decent enough sample for a good summer track so I'll forgive it. Everything else? Bangers everywhere. Lovely stuff. And so the Spice era begins...

  3. Two new entries outside the Top 40 this week, and at peak position, meaning that they missed out on any TOTP coverage:

    No.43 - Los Del Mar - Macarena
This is a different face of the song, with no female vocals, no English language, and a younger male vocalist, not that he looked young at all, but you could say less middle-aged than the two men on Los Del Rio, this Los Del Mar version and video was a lot more raw and Spanish in its style. Check it out here and see the difference:

    No.52 - Roxette - June afternoon
Oh I see, so release the single in July and see what happens. Final single in a constant 7-year run of singles since bursting on the scene in 1989, there would then be a break for three years before a brief return in 1999 with two singles.

    1. June Afternoon is a great tune but what were EMI thinking with that release date?!

    2. Having thought about it, Roxette must have recorded the single on a June Afternoon, but ny the time was released it was July, so not really that surprising I suppose.
