ReplyDeleteFor some unknown reason, there are some "strobing" on the TOTP episodes, isn't nothing to do with any controversial acts or presenters we've had in the past.
ReplyDeleteThe BBC did turn the performances down with "strobing", i've complained to the BBC, a plan for them to get to be shown hasn't worked yet. There is no problematic acts though, everything has been fine.
1997's repeat run skip has now been extended from four to ten episodes, despite I'll Be Missing You and I Believe I Can Fly made it in to the year-end chart. Well Next Summer, we may get one July episode courtesy of Oasis and three August episodes courtesy of Will Smith. As I'll Be Missing You only got 6 consecutive screenings than I Believe I Can Fly's 4 showings.
Didn't notice any strobing on the 5th July episode, so I can only think that BBC4 skipped it because of the presenter Mark Morrison.
ReplyDeleteThis show also had no Top 40 chart rundown, so have we seen the last of this phenomenon which dates back to the show's early days when it was the Top 30 rundown at the start of the show? I did notice a new entry at No.21 and peak position for Bizarre inc with Surprise, trying to live up to their 1991-92 chart results as their best years.
Nice to see Electronic back with their first single in four years since 1992. Not as good as 1992, but still managing to reach No.14 with this new one for 1996.
Also great to see Real 2 Reel back in the Top 10 with their last single in 1995 called Conway not even getting a TOTP showing at a peak of No.27, so the last time they were in the TOTP studio was at the end of 1994 with the single previous to that.
Ah, now for the playout, the Macarena had arrived in 1996 with that famous video featuring the two middle aged men singing alongside the teenage girls dancing in hot pants.
The reason why, the BBC skipped them due to a competition winner David Jackson, a future MP who won a expanses pay trip to Detroit to see Def Leppard! Just his name was mentioned however on the 05/07/1996 episode and he was seen at the start of 12/07/1996 and Bear Van Beers mentions him in the DJ link.
DeleteAnother convicted person who wasn't a celebrity or a singer or actor. The BBC already knew that, the technician's team couldnt' bother to edit or cut it out neither like it did with John Alford, as he was on after Robert Miles on the 23/05/1996 episode.
Thank your for the info. There must be hundreds of people with that name. They are really going on a witch hunt.
DeleteFor the 12th July episode, I can only think that Bear van Bears looked too sexy as presenter, and upstaged all the invited performers on stage, but she was defintely hot in that outfit, and very watchable. Good Lord!
ReplyDeleteHave to say that none of the performances on the show appealed, and I found it strange that The Fugees were back up to No.1 after being deposed of the position the previous week by Baddiel and Skinner with Three Lions, so thank goodness for Bear van Beers to keep the viewers watching!
Th Macarena is coming folks, as both Los Del Mar and Los Del Rio are bubbling under the Top 40 this week, and on their way....
We can confirm now that TOTP fans pleased to know, the repeat re-runs will have to wait for Underworld and Electronic in '99 and for Super Furry Animals in '98, as they have a run of consecutive live studio appearances in the 2000s.
ReplyDeleteWe are actually missing a number one from '96 which would be I Feel You by Peter Andre from the final GG-fronted 'December' episodes, we are resuming the consumption with number ones from Gary Barlow and The Spice Girls tonight.
Would it be possible for a new link to the missing episodes as it has expired.

DeleteThank you.
ReplyDeleteI'm just catching up on my iPlayer! Does anyone have a link to these two episodes still? Id be so grateful I haven't missed an episode since Chaka Demus and Pliers!!!
