  2. Hi Angelo, can you put up the November 1977 show, shown on the same night by BBC4, for comments on here, as there are some real belters on it.

  3. Ace of Base - not as good as the Bananarama original, but eleven years later in 2009, Rico Bernasconi vs Ace of Base produced a more disco dance floor version which ended up being better than the previous two versions by Bananarama in 1983, and Ace of Base in 1998, and complete with sexy video:

    4 The Cause - outrageously bold modern-day cover version of Ben E. King's original 1987 No.1 which itself was a re-release then.

UB40 - now regularly coming into the TOTP studio since 1997 to perform, after a 10-year gap since 1987 with Rat In Mi Kitchen, the group realised that chart success was becoming more dependent on TOTP performances than on video, as TOTP had reduced the number of videos on the show gradually through the 90s in favour of performers coming in to sing in the TOTP studio.

A couple of other new entries at peak positions further down the chart this week:

    No.33 Gloria Estefan - Oye
Shortened song title from the original Oye Mi Canto that she released in 1989 which reached No.16 way back then, but not sure if this was the same song.

No.45 Roger Taylor - Pressure On
First solo single since 1994 for the Queen drummer, and not managing to break into the Top 40 on this occasion, as the solo singles were beginning to dry up at this stage.

    1. Good show this one, albeit we keep getting Noel Edmonds shows aired, and no DLT ones which had some really good music on them.

Boney M - love this song, and couldn't help but notice that the lead vocals on this was was what normally was the side vocals singer, and not the usual lead, so was a little surprised to see her sing this one the first time a saw it several years later, as I had not got into pop music until 1978.

Kenny Everett - this 'video' seemed to be a send-up of The carpenters video of Calling Occupants of Interplanetary Craft, with the common background of deep space. This was also before The Kenny Everett video show which began in 1978 to include a weekly Captain Kremen slot, so this 'video' on TOTP may have been the first time that TV viewers saw Captain Kremen before it came to be cartooned on the Kenny Everett Video Show on ITV a couple of months later for the first series.

Darts - love the men's blazers on this studio performance, and the lead girl's outfit too!
