  1. The Beautiful South - now around 10 years since first coming onto the scene, they came to realise that any strong chart position would need to bring back the female co-lead on vocals, cos in those interim years whenever Heaton dropped the female co-lead and took on lead vocals on his own, the group barely troubled the Top 20, but this one straight in at No.2 was evident of formulas that work, and I must say this tune was very original in its style, and went down very well with pop fans.

Fastball - never heard of this group, but with TOTP now venturing outside the Top 20 for inviting groups to perform, this American group brought out a storytelling song which was a feature of many 70s groups, and had something of a journey kind of tune associated with it, and it came off very well.

Further down the chart, a new entry at No.51 and at peak was the Starsky & Hutch Theme by Andy G's Starskey and Hutch Allstars. Good Lord!

Another new entry at No.90 and also at peak this week was Randy Crawford with her new version of Wishing On A Star originally a Top 3 hit for Rose Royce in 1978. No comparison judging by the difference in chart positions.

  2. Some dreadful editing on this episode.
Crashing into steps song and a cut at the end of it.
Crashing out out of Savage Garden in to the countdown.
Very poorly done by the beeb originally.
