  1. Highlight of the show was Seal's Kiss From A Rose as this week's chart rundown video, as the Batman Forever phenomenon was in full swing by mid-1995, and this on top of U2's Top 3 success on the same chart, meant that although we were 6 years since Prince's first Batman soundtrack in 1989, the new Batman movie wave in 1995 was able to hold up musically with different pop stars.

Kiss From A Rose did manage one week at No.1 in America in August despite stalling at No.4 in the UK.

  2. Never realised that Dale hosted ToTP. I still recall him introducing and interviewing the then unknown Britney Spears on the National Lottery show singing that song...

    1. She was very mature for a 17-year old on that performance. Never watched that show, which the BBC must have ditched not long after, as we still have the Lottery nearly 30 years on, but not the draw live on TV.

  3. Chart rundown - four singles at peak inside the Top 40 which missed out on a TOTP play this week:

No.24 The Bassheads - Is There Anybody Out There?
Re-release of their original 1991 smash hit which got to No.5, this return for the same single in 1995 was somewhat surprising, considering they had their last Top 40 single in 1992, with nothing much since.

No.27 La Bouche - Be My Lover
Although this one didn't enter the TOTP arena, it was included on the Summer Dance Party compilation album at the time, which was a must for all summer party enthusiasts, and definitely worth a listen, and I would have put La Bouche ahead of Jinny's single to open the show this week, it was that good.

No.29 The Rolling Stones - I Go Wild
Return of the ever present Rolling Stones in the pop charts, as this one was not played much on the radio at the time I think.

    No.33 All-4-One - I Can Love You Like That
Last single and final throw of the dice for the group that was at No.2 for an eternity in the summer of 1994 with I Swear.

  4. Supergrass on top form following their recent Glastonbury appearance. Mick and Danny swapping roles for this performance - I'm sure Liam and Noel did something similar for one of their TOTP performances

I enjoyed Courtney Love's Hole. Great track

  5. JINNY with an Alex Party remix of "Keep Warm" that actually sounds different so worth the remix. No live vocal so original singer probably long gone.

Is this MN8 tune is Number One in France we can avoid the rest of the Top Ten. "Happy" I was not listening to this. Worst thing they've done and not quite in the dire category but close.

A minor hit last year and now a BIG hit this year for SEAL with "Kiss From A Rose" which is a gorgeous tune. New video as well from the Jim Carrey Batman film (Val who?)

It's CAAAST not CARRST Dale. "Finetime" first of many great singles. Full of fun and energy. Enjoyed that.

All the way from the US (and leaving the dictionary in first class) it's BROWNSTONE with "Grapevyne". A stunning live performance and I really enjoyed that. A nice surprise.

    HOLE = Noise!

Is "Alright" by SUPERGRASS the ultimate Indie tune and the ultimate tune of 1995? It's gotta be close. The video is ICONIC! Loved that.

Pure fun and joy with "Boom Boom Boom" and a rather decent sounding SOUL II SOUL tune to play out.
