  1. Nothing of interest in the Top40 in this Craig McLachlan presented show, so straight onto the peakers outside the Top 40, and three 80s legends peaked this week with their new singles for 1995, and still going in the 90s:

    No.42 Kirsty McColl - Days
Re-issue of her Top 20 single which got to No.12 in 1989, this was also her third single in a comeback year of 1995, having been away since 1991, and all three comeback singles flopped outside the Top 40, and this re-issue of Days was her final throw of the dice before calling it a day in chart terms.

No.44 Marc Almond - The Idol
Second of three singles released in 1995 after a two-year absence since 1993, and like McColl, 1995 was to be his final year of solo singles, dating back to 1983 with Black Heart.

No.52 Bob Seger & The Silver Bullet Band
    Hollywood Nights
Third of three singles released in 1995 after an absence from the UK charts since 1983, and this new single Hollywood Nights was originally released in 1980 and was the title track of a new Hollywood TV Special by ABC that year which is where the Olivia Newton John-Cliff Richard video for Suddenly from the Xanadu Movie soundtrack came from. The whole Hollywood Nights show with ONJ, Cliff and other guests is here, and this one's for Sct353:

  2. Firstly, WTF is McLaughlan wearing? Good job presenting though, lots of energy. He can come back.

Seems a bit odd for men of THE BOO RADLEYs age to be singing about a schoolgirl. A very odd number and not a great follow up to their biggest hit. "It’s Lulu", I wish it was.

Not sure how much more of P.J. & DUNCAN I can take now. This is shocking, again!

Doesn't happen often that I pass on 3 in a row but this is not good from METHOD and MARY.

Finally a decent, but not "perfect" tune from THE LIGHTNING SEEDS. Proper full 60s stereo effect in the headphones as well.

Dance for your supper dance monkeys. A highly amusing performance from BOYZONE, although I'm not sure it was meant to be. Title is Ironic I assume.

REM in the 70s as Stipe does his best Jimmy Sommerville impression on "Tongue". Liked the tune though.

SEAL can't even be bothered to sing live now which is a shame. Might as well not have bothered showing up.

Loved the SUPERGRASS exclusive. Nice funky little number "Caught By The Fuzz" and a cool Hugh Grant T-Shirt as well. Best on tonight.

Yellow trousers and a traffic cone hat are a difficult combination to pull off but JULIAN COPE gives it a go. "Try Try Try" is a belter of a tune as well, fair play.

THE OUT OF HERE BROTHERS leave the top spot, it was fun guys, thank you.

A much better second half this week.

  3. THE LIGHTNING SEEDS - Drummer not taking it very seriously. Dropped at least two drumsticks whilst messing around in that performance.
REM - Don't remember this one at all. Maybe it never got on the Radio 1 playlist at the time?
JULIAN COPE - Swapped his fancy 'climbing frame' microphone stand from the 80's for a traffic cone hat. Nice!
