  1. From titles only I only remembered about 30% of the songs, after hearing them I then recognised about 95% and I enjoyed nearly all of the songs on this especially Uptown Funk.

  3. Happy New Year everyone. Did you catch ‘Britain’s Greatest 80s Songs’ on C5 on Christmas Day? I recorded it (as it was nearly three hours long and packed with adverts) and watched it last night. A chart “as voted by you”. I never voted, nor did I see any prompt anywhere that I could vote, so I don’t know where the voters who did vote found out how to vote. I daresay there was a ‘shortlist’ of songs to vote for, so for example, if your favourite 80s hit was ‘Twilight cafĂ©’ by Susan Fassbender or the Passions meandering ‘I’m in love with a German Film Star’, then you were probably not able to plump for these. So, what did we get? A surprise No1 and a surprising bias towards the early and mid 80s. No sign of mega hits like Kylie’s ‘I should be so lucky’, Starship’s ‘Nothings gonna stop us now’ or Yazz’s ‘ The only way is up’ (mercifully no sign of ‘Pump up the Volume’ by MARRS, ‘ Jack your Body’ by Steve ‘ Silk’ Hurley nor ‘Theme from S’Express’ by S’Express). So, does that prove the early 80s was better than the late 80s? Probably. Were the late 80s underrepresented in the short list? Who knows? It was a great show to watch and most of the pundits from the ‘Britain’s biggest 70s hits’ were featured including the excellent David Grant and Paul Gambaccini, but also, poignantly, the late Janice Long.

  4. Happy New Year everyone. As it's 2nd January I am going to dig out the 2/1/92 edition from You Tube and give it a watch.

Mysteriously with Fairytale of New York edited out but that's available separately.

I am sure someone will furnish us with the full show soon.

    1. Interesting, perhaps Angelo can put up this show already, a few days before BBC4 shows the 9/1/92 on Friday, so that we can start posting comments on the 2/1/92 show a few days before the 9/1/92 show goes up on Friday, and also to ease the load of four episodes going up all at once to review. So could we get one now, and then the other three on Friday?

    3. It’s weird that FONY was edited out, but I remember the performance from the time.

I don’t think anybody needed to see Rhubarb and Custard for a second time(!), but here’s to a new year of repeats, even if it’s hardly a vintage era.
