Making their studio debut with their first of fourteen number one hits, this one holding the top spot for two weeks.

New entry this week at No.30 and peak position for UB40 with The Train Is Coming was the second single released from the new Labour of Love III album.
ReplyDeleteAnother new entry and at peak this week at No.72 was Elvis Costello/Burt Bacharach with Toledo. Good to see Costello still releasing new music 20 years after Oliver's Army in 1979 which was the first single of his that I remember.
Was great to see FAITHLESS – Bring My Family Back. very cool track.
ReplyDeleteJamie's flow was a bit uninspired this evening. I'm not surprised. This isn't going to take long.
ReplyDeleteMartine McCutcheon; STOP IT!!!!!!!!!!! Oh, alright, as it's this one. Still a joy to revisit, wherever it's sitting in the charts.
Texas; The usual reliable if relatively muted Texas fare. Has an almost baggy beat to it which is a good change from the increasingly arthritic rhythms on the show and Sharleen is as cool and moody voiced as ever. The only issue for me is that the guitar sounds too much indebted to the thrilling 'Halo' and sounds like a pale cousin to that single. Still it was another good few minutes.
Busta Rhymes; I've always tried to give hip hop a fair listen on these repeats but that sounded utter crud. Two blokes shouting over each other from start to finish. Sounded like a 'Question Time' argument.
S Club 7; Oh, hello. They did some fairly good things which i wasn't the right age forbut this one always irritated the backside off of me.
Faithless; I'm not familiar with this one and it must be their weakest single. Maxi Jazz does his deep/sleepy delivery but no interesting music to back him up. The picture goes into staccato effect which offers some interest.
Armand Van Helden feat. Roland Clark; My autocorrect initially made me type Armband Van Helden! That's the only thing of interest about this. I suspect his great name had a lot to do with him doing so well.
Fatboy Slim; A segue into my favourite Norman release though that isn't saying much. This still sounds strong and the video is good natured if slightly pretentious. The momentum is dreadfully stalled by Cook in a burger van or somewhere (Oh being a Cook, ha ha) telling us he can't be there. Can I have gherkins with that?
Westlife; Then it's just left for these nicely turned out boys to make me swear at my TV all over again. Only one has learned how to stand up mid song. There's plenty of opportunities for the others to do it unfortunately.
That was awful!!!!!!!
