Kung Fu Top of the Pops

Everybody was kung fu fighting, in fact it was a little bit the 22nd of May 1998 edition of Top of the Pops!

Top ten kick

22-5-98:   Presenter:  Jamie Theakston

(8) THE MAVERICKS – Dance The Night Away
Will go up four more places.

(7) STEPS – Last Thing On My Mind
A new performance of this song that had already peaked at number 6.

(15) IMAANI – Where Are You
The Eurovision runner-up was now at its chart peak, and it was her only hit.

(13) BUS STOP feat. CARL DOUGLAS – Kung Fu Fighting
Had been a number one for Carl in 1974, and this version peaked at number 8.

(5) LUTRICIA McNEAL – Stranded
Performing her second of three top ten hits and this one was the biggest peaking at number 3.

(2) THE TAMPERER  feat. MAYA – Feel It
Another step closer to number one.

(18) SHED SEVEN – The Heroes
With the third single from their number 9 album, Let It Ride, but it got no higher.

(1) ALL SAINTS – Under The Bridge/Lady Marmalade  (and credits)
Second and final week at number one.

  1. More dreariness, with the highlights being - I guess - Lutricia McNeal and a long forgotten lesser Shed Seven track. Oh and The Tamperer feat Maya, which was a great single, but it's a clip we've seen twice already. Was that Eurovision Daz Sampson on Bus Stop? ('Sexy Kung Fu Fighter ' lawdy.)

    1. I didn't mind seeing the same clip of Maya from when first on the show a few weeks back when at No.3, cos she's smoking' hot.

I must say that Bus Stop featuring Carl Douglas was the highlight of the show for me, as it sounded like it got the recent N-Trance rap treatment of 70s disco classics, and really liked the mix of characters on stage, including the sexy female dancer on stage doing a few kicks of her own with the occasion vocals for good measure.

Would have liked to see the Arsenal FC new entry at No.9 with Hot Stuff, as there was clearly a video for it, going by the Top 20 rundown clip, so not sure why this got the cold shoulder this week.
