  1. Corrr! Gina G opening the show. I remember in that year having the hots for Gina G, even though she was an Australian representing the UK at Eurovision. Check out that Dress! Oh and her girls were sweet too, especially the one in the purple dress. Good Lord!

Chart rundown - Status Quo at peak with a new entry at no.35, but not high enough to get a spot on the show. Was anyone still listening to their music in 1996, as their last Top 20 single you would have to go back to 1990 for The Anniversary Waltz!

A couple of interesting new entries peaking just outside the top 40 this week:

No.41 Simply Red & White - Daydream Believer (Cheer Up Peter Reid)
Was there something in the TV or entertainment scene at the time, and who is Peter Reid?

    No.50 Snap! - Rame
Last throw of the dice from this dance floor group originating with Turbo B in 1990, and then Summer in 1993, it had been a whole year since their last Top 40 hit with The First The Last Eternity, and second song in a row to fail to make Top 40 since then, so Snap were on the way out at this point.

  3. Peter Reid is the former Everton footballer and at the time Manager of Sunderland FC (who wear Red and White). He used to look miserable even when Sunderland won so some fans made this tune to cheer him up.

    1. Oh ok, so that is where the Simply Red and White comes from, and nothing to do with the legendary Simply Red. I didn't know this tune was linked to football.

  4. Gina G has moved in to the studio by the looks of it. Always welcome though.

Paul Carrack: Didn't pay much attention to this at the time but enjoyed it tonight.

2 Pac/Dr. Dre: Catchy and pretty much everywhere at the time. Enjoyed that.

    Longpigs: Decent indie tune.

Suggs: Who thought we would see Louchie Lou and Michie One again hey? Love this version of "Cecelia". Loads of summer fun. Bought this and played it to death.

Babylon Zoo: First full-on noise of the night. Bye Jas...

    Upside Down: Appalling

Rage Against The Machine: Noise number 2. Absolute rubbish.

Manic Street Preachers: First single from their best album.
