  1. The Nightcrawlers - great to see them at last in the TOTP studio on this second single, as on their debut single Push The Feeling On, they were nowhere to be seen apart from on video, so at last we get to see the hotties that were the main feature on the first single and video. Brilliant Stuff!

Jimi Somerville - last week's show had Ali Campbell from UB40 going solo for the first time, and now another early-80s performer Jimi Somerville while having already had solo hits before, was also very much still going strong in 1995 and still charting with the Top 40 and getting a feature slot the show. Not sure why Ali Campbell having shot up to No.5 on this week's chart since last week's video showing, is still avoiding the TOTP studio since the late 80s, as the last one I remember where UB40 came to the studio with him of course on it was on Rat In Mi Kitchen in 1987, unless anyone knows otherwise?

A couple of interesting new entries at peak outside the Top 40 this week which got no higher:

No.72 Joyce Sims - Come Into My Life
Good Lord, this masterpiece from January 1988 which got to No.7 was unusually released all these years later in 1995, and not sure how this came about.

No.75 Hootie & The Blowfish - Let Her Cry
Second single in the UK and second to fail to make the Top 40, this group were big in America and despite some TV channel exposure here including TOTP2, they still couldn't chart.

Ahh, the days when Lee and Herring were talking to each other!

it feels like the Nightcrawlers were taken aback by the success of the Push The Feeling On remix, and had to hastily create a follow-up. This time the cut-up vocals are intentional, but the song is hugely forgettable.

Three days after this episode was originally broadcast, I was at a live broadcast of the Radio One Chart Show in Birmingham. McAlmont and Butler were one of the acts performing on stage.

  3. Thanks for being a beacon of knowledge. Your post was truly enlightening.

  4. Lee and Herring really made me uncomfortable with their misogynistic jokes especially about young girls. Thankfully they both grew out of that as they were way more talented than such crass material.

This was a very so so episode. McAlmont and Butler are brilliant but two episodes ina row? And haven't we seen a lot of the Scatman already?

Apart from that thing at the top, the rest is just middling music, not offensively bad but not great. Decent mix of genres though.

  5. Lee and Herring crash the vocal of the first tune tonight, good start...

Always like INCOGNITO. "Everyday" has a nice smooth funky sound that I quite like. One of their lesser known and forgettable numbers though.

Yes there was a second NIGHTCRAWLERS hit.
Yes it sounds exactly like the first one.
    No, nobody remembers it.
What's the male equivalent of mutton dressed as lamb.

So this will be where I got the idea 6ft 8in MONTELL JORDAN was a basketball player then.

JIMMY SOMERVILLE sounding like UB40 on his cover of "Hurt So Good". Nice tune.

Is that an inflatable juke box? What a riot BON JOVI are. "This (absolutely is) A Love Song" and quite a nice on as well. Not gonna win over any new fans though.

Preferred the earlier tunes from MICHELLE GAYLE but her live vocals have massively improved. Looking good as well and I enjoyed this one. Another great vocal from LAMBERT & BUTLER back for a second week.

Is there any old tune ROBSON & JEROME won't slaughter? Answer: No. The annoying thing about their success is that they are not even trying. Sing live boys or sod off over the White Cliffs of Dover.

FUTURE SOUND OF LONDON – Well that was a noise.

Never found Lee and Herring remotely funny at the time. Still not funny now.
