Getting us underway with their studio debut tonight but the song got no higher.

Eurythmics – “Don’t Ask Me Why” (29) (video)
Went up four more places.

Linda Ronstadt & Aaron Neville – “Don’t Know Much” (25)
The duo perform a live vocal in the studio of a song that became Linda's second of two top ten hits, and Aaron's only top ten hit, when it peaked at number two.

New Kids On The Block – “You Got It (The Right Stuff)” (23) (video)
The boy band on which all the forthcoming 90's boy bands were based, and this song became their first of two number ones, and first of nine top ten hits.

The Alarm – “A New South Wales” (31) (video)
Their seventh and final top 40 hit but it got no higher.

And Why Not? – “Restless Days (She Screams Out Loud)” (38) (breaker)
Got no higher.

Quireboys – “7 O’clock” (36) (breaker)
Also got no higher.

Mixmaster – “Grand Piano” (12) (video)
Peaked at number 9.

Janet Jackson – “Rhythm Nation” (28)
Making her studio debut and the song went up five more places.

Lisa Stansfield – “All Around The World” (1)
First of two weeks at number one.

Another Top of the Pops in Paradise

Martika – “I Feel The Earth Move” (12)
A very lithe and energetic start to tonight's show and this Carole King cover peaked at number 7.

Luther Vandross – “Never Too Much ‘89” (19) (video)
Perhaps one of his best known songs but it had only peaked at number 44 back in 1983, this time around it made it to number 13.

D Mob introducing Cathy Dennis – “C’mon & Get My Love” (21) (video)
Peaked at number 15.

Deborah Harry – “I Want That Man” (13) (rpt from 19/10/89)
Now at its peak.

Milli Vanilli – “Girl I’m Gonna Miss You” (2) (video)
Also at its peak.

Phil Collins – “Another Day In Paradise” (22)
He's back in the studio with that pot of paint he's had since 1981, and this first single from his number one album But Seriously was on its way to number 2.

The Beloved – “The Sun Rising” (26) (breaker)
Their first of eight top 40 hits but it got no higher.

Mixmaster – “Grand Piano” (23) (breaker)
It's the Black Box gang again, and this one got to number 9.

Kylie Minogue – “Never Too Late” (17)
She's inteh studio tonight and this third single from her second number one album Enjoy yourself peaked at number 4.

Jive Bunny & The Mastermixers – “That’s What I Like” (1) (video)
Third and final week at number one. Ok, I must confess here that I'm actually quite enjoying these Jive Bunny singles. I know. Age is finally catching up with me!

Yum yum. Peaked at number 22.

Back in the studio with a somewhat more enthusiastic performance of their final hit than last time and the song went up two more places.

Here comes the 21st century, it's going to be much better .......... but most of all I want that 19th October 1989 edition of Top of the Pops!

We get the show underway with D Mob's third of five top 40 hits and Cathy's first of eleven, but of course she would go on to be an amazingly successful song writer for many other artists.

Billy Joel – “We Didn’t Start The Fire” (7) (video)
At its peak now.

Martika – “I Feel The Earth Move” (33)
In the studio and this livelier tune became her second of three top ten hits when it peaked at number 7.

Adeva – “I Thank You” (28) (breaker)
Peaked at number 17.

Queen – “Scandal” (26) (breaker)
Went up one more place.

De La Soul – “Eye Know” (24) (breaker)
Peaked at number 14.

Cher – “If I Could Turn Back Time” (9) (video)
Went up three more places.

Deborah Harry – “I Want That Man” (21)
In the studio with long time Blondie partner Chris Stein with what became her third of four top 40 solo hits when it peaked at number 13.

Sybil – “Don’t Make Me Over” (34) (video)
Peaked at number 19.

Jive Bunny & The Mastermixers – “That’s What I Like” (1) (video)
First of three weeks at number one.

Oh Well – “Oh Well” (37) (video/credits)

Getting tonight's show off to a gravelly voiced start, this title track from his soon to be number one album became his only top ten hit single when it peaked at number 10.

Will hop to number one next week.

Cliff Richard – “Lean On You” (28)
In the studio impressing the girls with his leanography, this new whispery song of his peaked at number 17.

Belinda Carlisle – “Leave A Light On” (14)
Also gracing the studio tonight and her latest power ballad went up ten more places.

Milli Vanilli – “Girl I’m Gonna Miss You” (10) (video)
Peaked at number 2.

Sinitta – “Love On A Mountain Top” (23)
Leading a school trip into the studio and this energetic tune went up three more places.

Living In A Box – “Room In Your Heart” (18)
Time to get the lighters out! This weepy ballad became their third and final top ten hit when it peaked at number 5.

Black Box – “Ride On Time” (1) (rpt)
Sixth and final week at number one for the year's biggest selling single.

Fresh 4 featuring Lizz E – “Wishing On A Star” (22) (video/credits)
Their only hit and it peaked at number 10.
