Getting the show from Brighton underway with their only top ten hit which was now at its peak.

With the first single from their number 4 album, One From the Modern, but it got no higher.

Here with their sixth of seven top ten hits, and it was at its peak.

(4) MOLOKO – Sing It Back  (from Brighton)
Performing their first of three top ten hits and this one was at its peak.

(12) A-TEENS – Mamma Mia  (from Brighton)
The first of four top 40 hits for this Abba tribute band, but this cover got no higher.

(11) STEREOPHONICS – I Wouldn’t Believe Your Radio  (from Brighton)
In Brighton tonight but got no higher.

A latin-heavy Top 10 this week with four latino-themed singles including the Top 3 all on the show this week, namely Lou Bega, Shaft, Geri Haliwell, and then on the chart rundown Ricky Martin just about holding on at No.10. I expect that the Ricky Martin recent chart-topping success spurred on more groups to bring out similar music with latin flavour with the Top 10 this week the result.

    Never heard of Shaft before, but just loved the red dress on the lead singer on the TOTP stage which made this tune very watchable. Had a look at the video, which starts with her in bikini relaxing on the beach with a cocktail.

    Further down the chart was a new entry and peak position for Yazoo with a remix of their debut single Only You which originally got to No.2 in 1982, so not sure why this one was back again in 1999. Good Lord!
