  1. Sting - Live By Satellite from New York
Surroundings looked very calm and peaceful, some five-and-a-half years before the tragedy of 9-11 when everything collapsed. That skyline in 1996 was a time capsule of the peace in the final years of the 20th century.

David Bowie & The Pet Shop Boys - wow what a show graced by the legendary David Bowie making a rare performance in the TOTP studio with the help of The Pet Shop Boys. I was thinking of coming off this blog at the end of the 1995 shows, but when you get a 70s legend like this coming in as a new entry at No.12 in 1996 with completely new material, I just wonder how long this will go on before finally coming off. Still hanging in there everyone!

If you thought the studio performance was good, then the video is ten notches higher, and one of the best music videos you will ever see, and we got a glimpse of the video the week before on TOTP2 as a chart prediction:

Chart rundwon - never mind Celine Dion but the chart rundown over her video had a couple of new entries that were not to be on TOTP, as they both fell down the charts the following week:

No.24 Status Quo & The Beach Boys - Fun Fun Fun
With both groups having a hard time of it recently in trying to chart in the 90s with new material, this unexpected collaboration was indeed Fun Fun Fun, and just watched the video was was also fun fun fun:

No.24 La Bouche - Be My Lover
Remix of their summer 1995 hit which got to No.27 first time round and also got no play on TOTP then, I remember having this single on my Summer Dance Party 1995 CD, and pity that both times it charted, TOTP ignored it or had no time for it, cos it's a great dance tune and perfect show opener for TOTP.

    5. Thanks Lurker for the fixed version.
Best part of this show was the Recorded For Recall section which included the first generally known hit for Freeeze called Southern Freeeze which made Top 10 in 1981. I didn't realise until years later that this is the same Freeeze that brought us IOU which spent three weeks at No.2 in the summer of 1983, but without the lead that was on Southern Freeeze a couple of years earlier in 1981.

  4. Terrorvison. Liked even nore this time around.

Another disco inspired dance tune from Gusto this time. Much derided at the time Disco finally getting a bit more respect nowadays. Liked this.

    Celine. One of her best.

Gabrielle with a gorgeous little number. Probably my favourite of hers.

Very dancey sounding Sting. Not sure this is the original. Does the BBC own that plot of land in New York?

Tina is back, post Bond theme, with a tune that sounds like a Bond theme. Not bad actually and I don't remember this tune at all.

Bowie with what was just meant to be PSB produced but ended up as a collaboration as often is the case with PSB. Just awesome.

Even Take That are on best form tonight. It's not as good as the original but they give it a fair crack and it's a nice way to bough out ..who had money on them coming back?

One of the 90s finest Number One tunes from Oasis. Class.

A full house of hits tonght. Best show in absolutely ages. Happy Morgie.
