TOTP2 - 12th September 1998

We're now up to the Steve Wright TOTP2 format we all know. I'll specifically try to point out if there's any exclusive performances in a show.
Thanks Rob!!!
DeleteLooks like Wright just used the new TOTP1 format for TOTP2, thereby throwing out the original TOTP2 format that stayed since 1994 when TOTP2 began with Johnnie Walker, and so out went the regular themes that the show was famous for, and now we have a pic-and-mix style of show which I think took away the original fabric of TOTP2 which was more enjoyable.
DeleteAt least Wright kept the original Walker format for his first TOTP2 series in 1997-1998.
Thanks Rob, there's my Saturday teatime viewing sorted :)
DeleteThanks Rob!
DeleteCheers!
Delete28-10-76: Presenter: Tony Blackburn
ReplyDelete(NEW) ALAN PRICE – Kiss Away The Night
(3) CHICAGO – If You Leave Me Now (video)
(30) LEO SAYER – You Make Me Feel Like Dancing
(20) JOAN ARMATRADING – Love And Affection
(18) LALO SCHIFRIN – Theme From Jaws (danced to by Legs & Co)
(7) SIMON MAY – Summer Of My Life
(15) WILD CHERRY – Play That Funky Music (video)
(1) PUSSYCAT – Mississippi (and credits)
The theme from jaws sounded dreadful - was it the BBC Orchestra?
DeleteIt's quite interesting that BBC4 played two episodes in a row from October 1976, I mean last week the Ed Stewart presented show of 21-10-76, and now the Tony Blackburn show of 28-10-76.
DeleteThe difference between the two shows is that the No.1 by Pussycat was first the video and then the TOTP studio performance on the two consecutive weeks, but Legs & Co were not named yet, and still known as the Top Of The Pops Dancers while the competition for naming them was ongoing.
Good Lord, another 25-minute show, after a recent similarly truncated episode. Any reason this time?
ReplyDeleteJennifer Paige - another Good Lord for such stunning looks straight in at No.4. I only remember the video for this at theme, as I had stopped watching TOTP in 1996, so what a relief to be watching this post-1996 shows this time round on the BBC4 repeats to get to see appearances like these. Interesting that Theakston referred to Paige as transatlantic totty at the end of the song. Good Lord!
Aerosmith - yes indeed, Theakston got this right as being at No.1 in America. In fact it was No.1 in America for four weeks the previous month in September, and I remember this one getting lots of radio play in the UK for weeks and months after.
Wasn't it Sheryl Crow he described as "more transatlantic totty now"?
DeleteSame reason Fawlty Towers repeat running at 36mins
